Her dad had said that she'd made her bed hard and she would have to lie in it and she was doing just that. On one of these domestic Sunday mornings, Pat woke early and prayed hard that God would send her a way out of the hell t hat she had created for herself. Her prayer was answered sooner than she had expected when she received a phone call out of the blue from one of her brother's ex-girlfriends, Maxine Smith.

It is 1964 in Los Angeles, and PP Arnold has just auditioned as a backing singer for Tina Turner. She is now feeling extremely anxious. Not because she is on the presence of a famous singer, and not because she has performed miserably. In fact, the strength of her performance has been such that Tina Turner has already offered her a position as an Ikette.

jh: Starting right at the beginning, how did you first arrive in England?

ppa: I came over with the Ike and Tina Turner Review. 'River Deep Mountain High' has become a big hit and they came over in 1966 to tour with The Rolling Stones. I was an Ikette.
